"I hope you will be treated unfairly, so that you will come to know the value of justice."
-- John Roberts, Supreme Court Chief Justice  (I add: for example, hidden bias, stereotype, unintentional favoritism and discrimination)

I am an US Citizen spent my teen years in Taiwan. I was not lucky enough at that time when I had so much robotics ambitions and dreams there was not any robotics industries and markets. I was then lucky to meet this co-worker Scott Brewer who was in the MBA program and encouraged me to do the same. By gravity pull and fate 1985, I attended Rice University 3-years with a full fellowship scholarship stipend for Ph.D. program in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. (This is a granduate student working position at Federal poverty level income, not a no-string-attached scholarship. If I had money, I would have gone to better school such as UCLA and above). Nonetheless, the income and free tuition was helpful. I left this small graduate program with a M.S. degree after being illegally forced out because of my extraordinary research and publication in robotics (see other pages on this site). I went on to earn a MBA from U.H. University Park while I was working full-time as an engineer.  Before I came to Rice, I scored 89% in Engineering GRE meaning I was the top 11th % engineering students in the world to receive Rice University full fellowship with a working stipend because of my extraordinary expertise in optimal control learned from a MIT educated Ph.D. professor at NCKU. I was a world top-level knowledgeable young talent in a particular field without rennouned fame. The talents of engineering students are no different than musicians and athletes. The difference is their career environment could have restricted them.  After Rice, I published my advanced robotics research to NASA, SIAM, Robot14/Autofact conferences etc.: publication (I can only prove its merit after publication, nobody believes me before it is accomplished.)

It turned out my hard-working for MBA while my full-time engineering job company paid for tuition, the people I was associated with after graduate school - namely Scott Brewer, has given me the opportunity to thrive for a high net-worth life. I am grateful for the things come along the way. People do not think MBA from Univ. Houston - Univ. Park is impressive, however if you are intelligent and learn all things you should have learned in MBA school specially Finance, you could be top-X-percentile high net-worth household.

The research I had done was to formulate robotic dynamics, solve numerical partial differential equations based on Pontryagin principle I am grateful to my brother, a Harvard educated Ph.D. scientist, and other  scholars at Rice who inspired and enlightened me for a kick-start, despite Dr. Miele and Dr. Akin's inability to comprehend the subject and with no support from the university (university was corrupted back then, lacking vision, and was an institute of money-making machine, employed graduate student and post-doctorial researchers to make grant money from NSF for professor's benefit. Only in America, someone can be doing outstanding job and still fired politically but that should not have happened to graduate students scholars. Rice University eventually has changed a lot based on my feedback to the foreign students office. Who was there to monitor the corruption once a professor becomes tenure track? This is one biggest fraud in academics. Since my encounter, the university had gone thru reform, changed President etc.). That is how it works, "sell to someone else". Provost Dr. Glass representing university told me. Unfortunately, my research motion had stepped on the political territory of Miele and Akin for their inabilities in robotics and conflict of interest of the future research money grants, and the bad loser tennis player Professor Duck. (He does not like me dating his daughter that he had no control over. Unfortunately crazy Duck's feelings was really hurt.)  Akin and Duck are just foolish political tools being used. Miele is very good in inciting. Akin and Duck are just not smart enough becoming used as a political tool. NASA scientists later recognized my accomplishment. I was invited for NASA SOAR conference publication 1990, after two years out of Rice graduate school.

This calculation can also be used by long range missiles to calculate collision avoidance with anti missile shield defense system. It was a small step for me, a big step for mankind. Collision avoidance optimal control was calculated the first time in history based on Pontryagin principle. After negotiation failed, receiving illegal threat from Miele that I will not receive my degree, I accepted awarded M.S. I was forced out of Rice University. I left Rice disappointed for this place is no longer worth. I could never imagine this could happen in graduate school. Galileo Galilei should have left church early (if he had bowed to political force, would his name be in history book today? The three evil professors are going to age in shame. I can forgive them but the facts they forced out graduate students and stole their ideas remain in history. I have a backbone not to bend to evils. Isn't that all we were told to do when we were children - telling the truth.), Steve Jobs was fired (basically) from Apple.  I was ousted by the motives behind: money greed and power grab. I did not bring a lawsuit because I appreciate what Rice University as a whole community had brought to me. Individual bad apple is a different story. Angelo Miele's 2002 collision avoidance research copied my idea (his vicious ambition, native aggressiveness, I have tried to prove finally shows the true color) and earned him hefty NSF $393,697 grant and more. Tomorrow has come, I waited 30 years seeing Google self-driving collision-avoidance car, robot-violinist, robot-dog, and robotic provider like Rumba (iRobot.com). Research in University takes 30 years to reach commercial world if the idea is NOT silented at University level. I don't understand why the tenure professor is the only permanent job in USA. One can easily see the problems of lifetime employment (not even age limit).

Rice back then was much backward than Harvard 1951 where An Wang held his patent and started Wang Laboratories Inc. went on to compete at size of IBM. Till today, I still believe teacher's job is to promote students' excellence, measured by how great their students are (voted by distinguished alumni), not by how much money they bring to the university. Yes, we can make a difference for future generations by standing up, speaking up, and re-making America.  The future of new generations in USA is dependent on our actions.

Those who survived grew stronger. I would not bend to any corruptted dark force. At the time, I could not work for NASA or DOD. It was Uncle SAM's loss and my loss too. After grad school, I realized technology is totally dependent on CPU and RAM for real-time calculation. Robotics intelligence is totally dependent on vision technology, mobile actuator and surrounding modeling (over 20 years ago, artificial intelligence and simulation runs from 20 minutes to hours on IBM mainframe, there was no way it can be used in real-time), there were enough algorithms but not enough computing power to calculate them, I learned academic invention that did not meet market demand timing will not succeed. I started devoting myself to computing technologies from my first MIS (IT) position. Today is different, the threshold has been reached. With provided backend GPU power from data-centers and high speed internet to anywhere, the computing results can be delivered to any where instantly. The efficient electrical motors and rechargable battery have been small and powerful enough to enable basic robots.

I love this country because we have freedom and laws and National Parks, but we should use our liberty toward greater good. We should use capitalism to build a better society, not to satisfy personal greeds. Extreme capitalism made people lose moral values. We should respect our differences and weed out bad culture (e.g. fast food, American moms do not want to cook, kids don't know tasty and healthy food. Kids don't know the true values in life, only chasing after flashy material items, living in a debt economy beyond its means - called credit or loan - Until Debt do US part ). Most of Americans don't seem to understand the difference of what you own and what you owe (liability vs asset, mortgage and loans are liability) probably due to deceiving commercialization. We should recognize America's strength, history and unique problems in a First Nation where Dr. King and President Kennedy were born. We should also learn from European and Asian to become a true diversified society in harmony like Singapore. I will tell the truth even if it hurts America's feelings, like Jamie Oliver does.

Since 60's, we obviously had declined from top world-power position because we consume too much, produce too little, outsource technology and high-pay middle class to offshore, for many decades. Those who did not see it have not waken up yet or are in denial. There are many things we in USA used to be number one in the world but no longer. Today we lag behind 20+ advance countries in many aspects of a good living and future life, with a tremendous amount of personal and govermental debt (Gee wee, in 3 months I found out the government owed more for me as a taxpayer than I saved. I encourage you to check this URL again in three months. On personal finance, I owed nothing. I only spend what I actually earned.). We don't produce enough to balance what we have consumed. America is facing historical problems today due to incorrect course last few decades, we need to act now. The future world super-powers are based on productivity that runs on technology. Technology is built upon science and math that needs to be in the top leadership role in America.
